Typical Singaporeans

A quick personal comment.

I was thinking of taking a short walk last Friday to Parliament House to pay my respects to Rajarathnam, one of Singapore's founding fathers, but I was seriously whacked out by work, and went home to sleep 12 hours.

So I also missed the cortege procession, which wasn't broadcast on TV, and did not exactly draw a huge crowd. Contrast a few days earilier, when a murdered nightclub owner had over 200 mamasans and KTV hostesses in his cortage, and.. well, had huge crowd of the curious and the morbid.

Shows you just what Singaporeans priorities are, although I do feel that a bit more effort could have been made by the local media to not only highlight just what Rajarathnam did for Singapore (and they did have comprehensive coverage of this), but to also ask Singaporeans to make a little effor to pay their respects to a quiet giant.
